The really ironic and maybe saddest part of this particular assault is that 'we' and wildlife (yes, there are critters on that property in spite of all efforts to spray and starve them out of existence) are paying for the sins of the Catholic Church.
Council member Zollman grilled the police chief about the lack of progress on resurrecting a defunct program that was neither identified as a priority last year or this year. This council didn’t do priorities before that. Why was Mr Zollman grilling the police chief? Shouldn’t he have identified this as a priority, asked for council support and then given that a priority to the city manager before ripping into the chief?
Regarding the proclamation honoring the jewish presence in Sonoma: I am all for it! Someone should bring up what TRUE antisemitism is, and how it was demonstrated by the town Marshall of Santa Rosa and a gang of thugs in the 30’s when they tarred and feathered Sol Nitzberg. He had been organizing striking apple pickers. Yes, he had communist leanings, but his being jewish was the real motivation of this act of hatred.
But if we commemorate jewish heritage in Sonoma now, we should also explicitly separate that from support of the actions in Gaza and elsewhere by Israel’s ultra-zionist right wing government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamar Ben-Guir, Bazalel Smotrich and others. It is not antisemitic to condemn their indiscriminate murders of Palestinians. So if the promoters of this proposition in Sebastopol think my criticism, or other criticisms, of Israel is antisemitic, I want no part of it, and neither should the City of Sebastopol.
Our children and their friends should be able to live where they grew up. More housing is not a bad thing. This town’s population has not grown appreciably since I moved here more than 40 years ago, and the town boundaries have not changed more than a couple of acres in that same time. It’s gonna be okay.
40 years ago-less crime, less traffic, fewer MVAs, less light pollution, more natural habitat, more reasonably priced rentals and houses, more freedom, less commercialism...
