This is really interesting and new information to me as a resident. Thank you for sharing this plan. Also…the entire park has an ADA compliance problem. Families of kids with disabilities have been asking for accessible parks for over a decade. We still do NOT have one! Wood chips are NOT accessible to walkers and wheelchairs. We would love to see our town do better when they upgrade Ives. I love that park, and I love the community aspect it brings to our town. It would be very sad to see the capacity for events drop by half.
Great article! I learned a lot. Very motivated people with different ideas. I’d like to see many more flowering trees around the park. How about an “Adopt a Tree” program with residents donating money to buy them.
Thanks to all who are developing ideas to improve Ives!!!

I really appreciate this summary. Understanding that this is a multifaceted issue I am in support of the re-naturalization of the creek. Decisions made to pave over the creek seemed to only be concerned with developing the city, not to maintain the water ways which is essential to all life here. I do think that we have more to be gained as a city by being more inclusive of the natural environment rather than only focused on civic needs. These are the kind of decisions we need to make at a small and large scale to fight climate change- and I think we can adapt our activities and community events and gatherings that we all love to accomplish this.
In response to the proposed changes at Ives Park I'd like to clarify that the chain link fence was put up to protect the ducks that hung out at the creek and little pond. I wouldn't want to attract wildlife to an area only to have the animals hurt by humans.
that sounds like a good idea. I don't know why they didn't try that the first time.
Also, on another topic-I think they cemented in the creek because it was flooding during rain storms. Do you have any idea what the actual reason was for cementing the creek walls?

Great Summary

The hideous chain link fence can be replaced by a beautiful one- an aesthetic upgrade for relatively little money- and no increased harm to the ducks.
