The Sebastopol Times has now confirmed from multiple sources that Adrian Yanez, the murder suspect in Saturday’s shocking killing of Michael Molland in Valley Ford, was exhibiting very strange—and, at a time, violent—behavior at a West County hotel before Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene. (See yesterday’s article here.)
According to anonymous sources, Yanez had set off red flags among hotel staff immediately when he first stepped onto the Farmhouse Inn property in Forestville on Thursday, Nov. 14. Over the next two days, Yanez’s behavior would only cause more concern.
“I had a few interactions with the man,” an anonymous source wrote to the Sebastopol Times. “Thursday night he told an employee that he wanted someone to be sent up to his room to give him an oiled back massage. During my shift the next morning, he came in and told us that he has been sober from cigarettes and his back was in a ton of pain because of his lungs. He asked if we sold cigarettes, we told him no and that we're a non-smoking property—but mentioned the spa and a massage to help with his back. He goes to the spa and asks our spa director and maintenance person if they sold cigarettes (their response was the same as front desk) and booked a massage. She asked his gender preference to which he replied, ‘woman obviously, and the one with the softest hands.’ The spa therapist mentioned that he had also said something to make her uncomfortable: ‘I just need to get undressed and get your womanly hands on my lower back.’”
The source said that “it was evident that Yanez was disturbed” throughout his stay.
“He was supposed to check out Friday, but was still in his room at 2, so I had to go up and knock [because] he wasn't answering his personal phone or in-room line. I knock on the door and he makes a yipping noise, followed by yelling that it’s locked. I said through the door I needed to speak to him, and I heard him moaning about his back as he came to the door. He cracked the door open, and he was sweating like a swine and completely naked. He was hiding his body behind the door, but it was obvious. After we awkwardly spoke, he—without saying anything—dropped two soiled rags and closed the door. Next day he tells a waitress to sit next to him for a while as he waited for breakfast. She did and then he started scratching her back, to which she stood up. He grabbed her wrist when she stood and forced her to sit back down.”
Thereafter, the waitress told other hotel staff, and the hotel called law enforcement.
When the hotel staff went to Yanez’s room, “All of the alcohol in his room had been opened and [was] half empty,” the source added.
According to Rob Dillion, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Public Information Officer, deputies conducted tests on Yanez at the scene and interviewed hotel staff about Yanez’s behavior.
“[The deputies] did a 11550 evaluation, which is basically a determination of whether or not somebody’s intoxicated,” said Dillion. “We run through the entire protocol for 5150 hold”—an involuntary detention and evaluation for those experiencing a mental health crisis—“to see if there’s a mental health component. He wasn’t intoxicated. We didn’t have the legal authority to hold him on a 5150…like we can’t just indefinitely detain somebody.”
Dillion said deputies took Yanez off of the Farmhouse Inn property before releasing him at 1:24 p.m., telling him that if he was to return to the hotel, it would be a crime.
Less than two hours later, Yanez allegedly carried out the murder in Valley Ford.
According to court documents, Yanez is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 25. He is currently being held at the Sonoma County Jail without bail.
WHY IN THE WORLD DID The Farmhouse in give him a room? did he pay? I can't even afford to stay there??
Yikes. Most alarming.
