Aurora Borealis wows west county
As solar storms continue over the weekend, you'll have another chance to see the northern lights tonight and maybe on Sunday
Did you see it? The Aurora Borealis was visible throughout west county last night. And if you missed it, you’ll get another chance. According to the Space Weather Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there’s a chance you can see it again tonight and maybe even on Sunday.
Lots of folks were up in the middle of last night taking pictures.
Fifth District Supervisor Lynda Hopkins wrote on her Facebook page, “Worth waking all the kids up to drive out to the Laguna. Lots of folks watching from Sanford Road - not quite as bright in real life as it looks in the photos (long exposure helps, as do breaks between car headlights!) but still humbling and spectacular!”
And finally, the Sebastopol Police noted this encounter last night.
“On 5/10/24, just before midnight, Officer Endy was proactively patrolling the northeastern sector of our city. During this patrol, Officer Endy came upon a suspicious vehicle, and it was occupied. Officer Endy contacted the occupants and learned that they were not up to any mischief, and they were there to see the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) in the night sky. Sure enough, within minutes the sky lit up with this incredible light show!”
Nice story.
