Bans Off Our Bodies comes to Sebastopol
The nationwide “Bans off our bodies” protest came to Sebastopol this Saturday with roughly 100 protestors seizing the corners at the crossroads of Main Street and Bodega Avenue. Bans Off Our Bodies protests were held in over 380 cities nationwide today, part of a national day of protest organized by Planned Parenthood.
The protests came in reaction to a leak from the Supreme Court that suggested Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion decision, was going to be overturned.
In Sebastopol, there was a lot of supportive honking from passing cars - as well as some steely glances from those with different opinions.
No organizers could be found in the crowd; rather, word of the protest seemed to have spread across social media and email. Everyone had heard about it from somebody else - friends invited friends - and the numbers kept growing as the protest continued.
Unlike many Sebastopol protests, which are often rather gray-haired affairs, there was a mix of all ages at this event, from children to the elderly, with, not surprisingly, a large showing by women of childbearing age.
Here are some photos from the event.
