The Neighborhood Coalition and Save Our Sonoma Neighborhoods do not oppose cannabis itself. Our concern is location-based.

We have direct experiences across Sonoma County from the BoS’ permissive ordinance: like living next to 4,000 outdoor cannabis plants and commercial indoor cultivation buildings just 10 feet from the property line. The county plans to allow commercial cannabis operations on 5-acre parcels near you to host up to 104 amplified music events per year in our Sebastopol neighborhoods. And sell cannabis on-site…retail next to you.

We advocate for locating commercial cannabis and cannabis tourism to more appropriate areas. This is the foundation of our argument.

People are biased about cannabis. They seem to not care about the drunken slobs breathing all over them in restaurants at Barlow, or the stinky fertilizers used on vineyards. The smell of cannabis growing is wonderful. Get over yourselves about your anti-pot bias. Or maybe we can stamp out vineyards next to our homes?

Hi GnomeJoe, Hope you read Robert's comments and the concerns he mentioned. It isn't a pro pot / ain't pot thing. Its about a commercial operation next door to your home and the impacts. As for the smell, that's in the eye's of the beholder. Glad you like the smell but if I don't should I be imposed upon?

To each his own, but like my post, it really is an anti cannabis bias.  Otherwise those whose homes are next to vineyards would be wanting ordinances prohibiting them.

My main problem with both cannabis and alcoholic beverages is the harm to our health from consuming them.  Yet alcohol consumption is inherent to social gatherings, even expected or required.  Pot smokers usually consume discreetly, and no one is pressured to consume to be accepted as part of a gathering.

When I go to any dinner, party or other social gatherings, I feel judged harshly for not accepting drinks.  I do not get that from being around pot smokers.

The chemicals used for fertilizer and pesticides, whether they be “organic” or not, in the cultivation of grapes, is downright smelly, and the destruction of open spaces to grow grapes, is horrendous.

That is why I feel there is anti-cannabis bias on this issue.

I wish you the best even though we may disagree on this issue!
