Don't drive downtown this afternoon
Sebastopol Police Department requests that you avoid driving downtown for the next few hours due to traffic back-ups caused by the power outage
The Sebastopol Police Department released this Nixle, just before 1 pm today:
Sebastopol PD advises you to avoid downtown Sebastopol due to traffic congestion. The power outage for a large portion of Sebastopol has caused significant traffic backups, due to the traffic signal at the intersection of Sebastopol and Bodega Avenues (Hwy. 12) and Main Street (Hwy 116) being out. Westbound traffic entering Sebastopol via Hwy 12 from Santa Rosa is especially affected.
Other traffic signals on the west side of Sebastopol are out as well. Remember to treat any non-functioing traffic signal like a stop sign.
In the meantime, please use alternate routes through town that do not take you through the downtown area, if possible.
PG&E is working hard all over the county to get power restored. The Sebastopol PD will do their best to alert you when the situation is rectified.
I definitely have no idea how busy SPD was this morning. I can only imagine since we haven't publicly seen the activity logs that Council member McLewis asked for and our new Chief promised, but it sure would have been useful if someone was directing traffic at Bodega and Main this morning.
