Faces and signs of West County
As seen at demonstrations on Thursday, July 17, at the main intersection in Sebastopol
Our Faces of West County columnist Steve Einstein did something a little different this time. He took pictures of the folks at the Good Trouble protest in downtown Sebastopol yesterday.
Thursday, July 17, marked the fifth anniversary of the death of the civil rights activist and Democratic congressman from Georgia, John Lewis. Approximately 1,500 other towns held similar demonstrations throughout the country, protesting the policies of the current administration, and in particular, the direction the President is taking this nation.
It was clearly an older crowd in Sebastopol. Protesting may come more easily to those who went to their share of protests in the 60s, and who in all likelihood, haven’t stopped protesting ever since.
Many of the signs paid tribute to the spirit of John Lewis.
This is not meant to be a cross-section of anything, except of those who were protesting on Thursday in Sebastopol.
Wish there were more young people.
