With the loss of affirmative action, any collegial sports conversation should be ready to discuss race as a factor.

"A Black man is seven and a half times more likely than a white man to be a scholarship athlete. One out of every 9 Black men on campus is on athletic financial aid, compared to 1 in 67 white men, according to 2021-2022 data that schools provided to the NCAA"

I fully agree and I’m 79. College football used to be fun etc. now it’s just a money making drag. First there are endless TV time outs which confirm that those in attendance are really just extras in a made for TV deal. We used to go to the Cal games but now they are at night to get TV coverage which effectively means getting home close to midnight. Not worth it. Now I go to Analy games and watch women’s sports whenever I can

I am smart and did well in college. I saw some really unintelligent men getting football scholarships. Most would not make the NFL. Wouldn't it have been better to educate them in something they could enjoy and make money at?

I’m 78. Lansing Michigan was my home town. As a kid, Michigan State University was Michigan State College.

The land grant colleges helped create the relative prosperity of the 1950’s via the GI Bill for returning service people.

I left Ann Arbor in 1985, when blue and gold “everything” was sold in most stores. Money was to be made…

From the era of “educational public broadcasting” that is all but gone, to education as a profit center, with usurious student debts, the USA has morphed into what we now experience.

Graffiti in an Ann Arbor bar a few years ago that originally said “Question Everything “ was changed to “Monetize everything”.

We all have participated in this degradation via many routes.
