Thank you for the informative interview and article. One thing I'm curious about is Chief McDonald's position on civil rights -- 1st, 2nd and 4 amendment rights? The reason I ask is that I believe Sebastopol PD has a good record/legacy of protecting individual civil rights in Sonoma County, in contrast to some other local law enforcement departments. Maybe that will be changing in Sebastopol, in line with current administration priorities? Thank you 🌼

Chief Sean McDonagh's answers to questions you put to him impresses me. I think he will be a straight talking yet compassionate leader. His emphasis on community engagement is exemplary. "Life isn’t a picnic and there’s no participation award in the real world." What a great line...‼️💯 This is such a fundamentally important perspective for every member of our community to embrace. His admirable rhetoric sets a high bar for us all.

Welcome to our village.

I wonder if you’ve found a place that knows how to made an acceptable Flat White?

Mr. McDonagh sounds like and all around good guy. I am interested in why he left the position in Colorado. He spoke previously and publicly about being transparent. Tell us more about your history here in the US.

I can tell you what I know: He was beloved in Rocky Ford, his first Colorado posting. The editor of the local paper there called him "a lovely man," and said he turned the whole police department around. His other post in Monte Vista lasted eight months and ended with the town paying him $35,000 in some kind of contract dispute(?). The local editor in that town didn't know why and said no one was talking.

Thanks for that info. I think he would get off on a better foot here if he would give us the transparency he said he valued. If there was a contract dispute it might be important for our community to know what the issue was. I understand some things are none of the community’s business but contracts? Let’s avoid future problems and be clear about past employment.
