UPDATE: Teen missing from Sebastopol has been found and is safe
Alyshia Billy-Chenault disappeared from the TLC facility on Highway 116 on Friday
UPDATE: She has been found.
The Sebastopol Times got word late last night that 16-year-old Alyshia Billy-Chenault, an indigenous teen from a reservation near Eureka in far northern California, has disappeared from the TLC facility just north of Sebastopol on Highway 116.
She has been missing since Friday evening.
According to her sister, Teryn Madison, who reached out to us on Facebook this morning, “She told the staff she was going on her evening walk on Friday, the 14th, and she never went back.”
Her grandparents have filed a missing person’s report with the Sonoma County Sheriff.
“They [the sheriff’s office] said that kids running away from the youth facilities is common and that they always come back, but she hasn’t yet and this will be the start of day three. We know she doesn’t have any money,” Madison said.
Alyshia is 5’5” and her nickname is “Sweet Pea.”
Her sister gave a further description: “She has a nose ring…she always wears some kind of jewelry, and normally wears a hat,” Madison said. “She might have a backpack on and is probably wearing jeans. Lately she has been talking about going to church, as she went last Sunday and got gifted a Rosary…TLC has taken her rollerblading, to the beach and to the thrift store, all of which she enjoyed. She might be about 120 lbs. She is a petite girl. She called me Friday afternoon around noon. It’s the last I’ve heard from her.”
Her sister said Alyshia had been living at the TLC Family and Child Services facility since January.
Alyshia’s grandparents are driving down from the reservation today to begin searching for her.
