Thanks for this article. Several years ago when living in Graton I considered keeping bees. I went to a honey festival in Woodland, Ca where experts in the field were giving lectures. What I learned was how important having enough food for bees is crucial for healthy bees and how much competition there is for food. I decided then that I didnt want to add to the competition and so instead of keeping bees I decided to plant bee food plants. There is a magic mythological stature being a beekeeper, it’s a sexy endeavor. The reality is though that bees should bee respected and not treated like livestock, which they are by the big ag aviaries who bring their bees to the county yet make ZERO contribution to the ecosystem and nourishing landscape for bees. If people want to be good to bees, plant more bee friendly pollen and nectar plants. We needs those more than we need more honey operations or greedy big ag bee vacationers spreading disease and increasing competition for food
