Main Street Renaissance, Part 2
Discover Americana, Goldfinch, and Ruby Pilates, three new establishments in downtown Sebastopol
Downtown Sebastopol continues to blossom as new businesses fill vacant storefronts on Main Street. Goldfinch is the latest business to open its doors in The Livery on Main, while Americana is scheduled to open in the former Gypsy Cafe space in July. And Ruby Pilates now offers multi-level classes all week long.
Americana Sebastopol, scheduled to open next month in the former Gypsy Cafe space, follows on husband/wife-duo Samantha and Ryan Ramey’s existing restaurants — Estero Cafe, in Valley Ford, and Americana Santa Rosa.
“As always, we are shopping the best vendors and ingredients, and it’s always fun to see what is new out there and how we can bring it in for our customers,” said Samantha Ramey. “Sebastopol feels like the perfect marriage between Estero Cafe and Americana Santa Rosa — it’s truly West County, but on Main Street in a downtown. We hope the community loves us half as much as we love them!”
The menu will be nearly identical to the couple’s other two restaurants, with a few small variations; it will include pies from Jenny Malicki, and Chef Ryan is working on some gluten-free options. The decor will be familiar, too — rustic farmhouse.
“We are so excited to be a part of this historic building,” Samantha said. “We’ve always included local artists’ work for sale on the walls [of our restaurants], and here in Sebastopol we even have a gorgeous mural by Jean Warren and Mary McDougall.”
Look for that new mural — and a new menu — in July.
Goldfinch, the latest addition to the up-and-coming Livery on Main food hall, co-work and event space concept collective succeeds longtime local restaurant K&L Bistro, a renowned Bay Area favorite which closed its doors last year. Located across the street from Retrograde Coffee Roasters, Goldfinch is co-owned by restaurant industry veterans and first-time partners Deanna Neale, Nick Izzarelli, Christopher Smith and Rodrigo Mendoza.
In keeping with the Livery’s vision of incorporating hyper-local cuisine, the self-styled modern American bistro, which opened on May 5, uses fresh ingredients from local farms and purveyors including Earthworker Farm, Mycopia, Pink Barn Farm, DMS Ranch, Joe Matos and more, which are prepared, then cooked, by Chef Mendoza around an open-wood fire. The seasonal menu features bites, oysters and caviar, small and large shareable plates, crafted house cocktails, and local and imported wines.
Goldfinch is the Livery’s flagship restaurant, according to Rebecca Lipski, COO of The Beale Group, the company owned by Greg Beale, the Livery’s visioner and developer.
“Nick, Deanna, Rodrigo and Christopher hit the ball out of the park with their debut restaurant, an upscale yet entirely approachable and inclusive American Bistro, and we could not be happier for them,” she said. “Inspired Spaces, Builders’ Studio of Sebastopol and Thrive Construction Group collaborated on the renovation of the building, and it looks absolutely stunning.
“Our mission with The Livery on Main is to support local entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams, and, in doing so, revitalize downtown Sebastopol into a vibrant community hub for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to working with and supporting other local entrepreneurs once we have completed construction on the main food hall building.”
Goldfinch is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
