We cast a wide net for the events we include in our Monday column, “What’s happening this week in Sebastopol?” but this week we missed two important local events—a film about indigenous Hawai’i, which plays this evening at SebArts, and the Sebastopol Rotary Lobster Bash, which happens this Saturday. We thought you’d want to know about them.
World Premiere: Kupuna ‘Aina: Hawai’i, The Land Remembers
Thursday, Oct. 22, 6 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. $15.
Kupuna Aina invites you into the heartbeat of Hawaii. Through the voices of kupuna (elders), healers, and modern warriors restoring the aina (land), the film honors a profound remembering of ancestral ways. This is a journey of reclaiming ancient rhythms, revitalizing native language, and embracing the sacred kuleana—the duty to secure a living future for generations to come. Q&A with Sebastopol-based film directors Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo after the film. Get tickets.
Sebastopol Rotary Lobster Bash
Saturday, Oct. 24, 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at the Friedman Event Center, 4676 Mayette Ave., Santa Rosa. $175.
