I had not read very far before wondering if Gene Nelson had authored this Fish Story. See the photo with Gene dsitting center left confirmed my suspicion. Many times Gene included a fish story at the in his sermons, which almost always generated a laugh from the congregation. He has a well-developed sense of humor that he uses well whether delivering a serious sermon or in discussions in our Rotary Club and other secular activities. More than once hearing about the latest fishing trip from Gene or one of his companions has made me envious that my Dad was not a fisherman and thus never introduced me to the sport. You only ahve to listen a few moments to know "going fishing" in only the excuse to have a good time with friends and take a short break from your ususal schedule.

My wife and I while building our final home a few miles outside of Sebastopol picked up a copy of the now defunct weekly Sebastopol Times & News, which happened to include Gene Nelson's column that week. After reading it we dicided on our next weekend visit we'd attend Communitiy Church and have been doing so for almost 40 years now. I'm grateful that I get to see Gene Nelson, and several of his fishing buddies each week at the Rotary Club of Sebastopol, including several who moved to Oakmont after retiring.

Fof nearly 60 years. I have been the class secretary of the 28 young ment who spent 10 weeks together for a required field course for people seeking a career in forestry. This bonding experience brought us very close together and enhaned in it the classroom over the insuing 4 semesters to graduation. We are now all at least 80 years old, and when my wife and I knoe a vbacation we are planning will put us near to one of the survivors we let him know ahead of time so we can spend an evening or a day together to cathc up, reminisce, and learn about each others families.

Yes, Old Friends are a treasure to be maintained as long as possihle!
