Re the bad air day(s) at the Sebastopol Library, during their roof repair the whole block smelled of acetone, and when I went inside it was unbearable. I told the librarian that they should not be working there under those conditions, and that the building should not be open. He agreed and said he would tell the manager. Shortly after that they closed. It was true that there was bad air quality that day, but the acetone and/or other toxics were much worse. That roofer should not be used again.
Thanks for covering the changes and turnover of retail establishments in town. It's sad to see how much they struggle. There probably are many contributing factors. I wonder how much high real estate or lease costs are challenging those with bricks and mortar operations. Or whether the ones that persist own their buildings and therefore have stable, and lower, rent for their storefronts.
Small merchants are a bit like small farmers - in the face of high real estate or land costs, it may become prohibitive to operate. Perhaps its time for some sort of conservation easement to support small, locally owned and operated, shops!
Actually, 80 months is 6 years and 8 months that the old CVS location was vacant.
Thank you. I corrected it above.
