The No Kings protest in downtown Sebastopol was a big one. The crossroads of Main Street and Bodega were swarming with protesters, and the crowd spilled down Main Street from McKinley to Burnett. There was a heartening and unusually large number of American flags on display—thanks in part to the Boy Scouts, who put out flags for Flag Day that morning.
But plenty of folks brought their own.
“Saturday is also Flag Day and I’m planning to bring an American flag,” Sebastopol resident Denise Meier said. “I do have a negative association with “flag-waving” as it relates to the nationalism of the 20th century. But in this time and this place, for me, the flag represents the values underlying our democracy, as flawed as its functioning is. It’s time to reclaim it!”
I wasn’t the only one taking photos that day. Sebastopol Times reader Katheryn Fong was carefully documenting her favorite signs. See them all here.
And let’s not forget Forestville!
