Sebastopol Police Logs, September 4-10
The following are crimes excerpted from Sebastopol Police Department daily crime log entries and listed at the time the alleged violation was reported.
A reader recently asked “What does ‘Cleared by circumstances beyond police control’ mean?” Sebastopol Police Chief Ron Nelson gave the following answer
It could mean a variety of things. Examples could be:
The reporting party called and then wasn't at the location when we arrived or changed their mind about reporting anything;
An investigation was conducted and submitted to the District Attorney for prosecution but the victim later changed their mind, or the case lacked prosecutable evidence to proceed;
The person reported a crime, but due to the statute of limitations being exceeded as the crime being alleged occurred many years ago, it could not be prosecuted under the penal code.
