I am so excited to see this article about Sebastopol’s Chinese history reprinted here. Mr. Elliot’s research is the cornerstone piece on the subject in our Reference Room at the West County Museum and has guided our ongoing goal to maintain a more complete story about the Chinese experience and contributions in our community. On our small but mighty museum volunteer team, we have a researcher focused on this topic, hoping to determine many unanswered questions, such as who are the Chinese that may have remained in Sebastopol following the end of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943. So much to learn and share with our community as we find the stories reflecting the many dimensions of our diverse past.

Fascinating! And sad. If you want to learn about the once-rip-roaring Chinese Delta town of Locke (south of Sacramento), read the book "Bitter Melon: Inside America's Last Rural Chinese Town." And take a Sunday Delta drive to visit it.

Thanks once again for such inciteful, educational and entertaining journalism. The Sebastopol Times delivers like no other paper, truly Pullitzer quality IMHO.
