The work by the "many" of the Graton community is a very heartening story, indeed. I remember a few decades ago when the village was bitterly divided over the governance of its sewer district. Good communication and a new leadership dynamic has dramatically improved things. Would anyone disagree?
This is just so amazing an wonderful, how people can build something like this. It is such a contrast with Sebastopol that relies on consultants, ignores the people and gets nothing done.
I applaud the integrity of the Graton Community Service District. They have a clear handle on Prop. 218 and Prop. 26 and are keeping their books clean. I hope Sebastopol can move toward this type of clarity with our Enterprise Funds. This sentence jumped out at me "That approach is governed by a firm rule: by law, the GCSD cannot use its sewer funds to subsidize the Town Square. The park must support itself." In the same way the Graton Town Square must support itself through its revenue generation, the City of Sebastopol must support itself through its revenue generation and should not be using sewer funds to subsidize the City. It is compelling how much support the County gives to unincorporated towns in West County. This project in Graton and the library in Occidental. I wonder if there is a way for Sebastopol to collaborate with the County on our library?
