Really appreciate gaining some insight into the District 2 race. I'm be happy to vote for anyone from any party, as long as that person has good ideas and a realistic plan of putting them to work.

Hard to tell if a short format like this interview is inherently limiting, or if Mr. Coulombe's ideas for change in District 2 are simply to be critical of Huffman. I didn't read any specific recommendations for positive change.

But, good heavens, Coulomb's embrace of conspiratorial thinking are on full display here: Russia invaded Ukraine in collaboration with China in an effort to drain the US of it's economic power? We're already in World War III? The American people were not aware of the abusive conditions that Biden was probably subjected to as the person who's supposed to be making the decisions? Wow, just wow. If this kind of world view is the best our military can produce, we're screwed. Hard pass on this guy.

I agree with you. I was just going to make nearly the same comment.

“ The government has no interest in solving problems, because, if it solves the problem, it has to find a new reason to exist.” High school drop out with hubris.

He had no comment on Project 2025, which Rep. Huffman is fighting to prevent. And any republican to be elected in this generation is tainted by MAGA.

The big R or little r republicans have theories, but they pick corrupt data.

Thank you showing this candidate and this vacuous ideas.

Rep. Huffman has my vote. https://youtu.be/43GyYMKVl6s?si=eT6pj3lmawId3-pj

The problem with voting Republican is that any candidate is likely to support the misogynistic Republican social policies.

Makes sense to cover the candidates in District 2. Certainly want to thank Mr. Coulombe for his military service, which I both respect and appreciate. I hope (assume?) you will give Representative Huffman a similar opportunity to discuss his ideas.

On the price of auto fuel, Mr. Coulombe seems as confused as I believe the question is. We have for decades (even the past two centuries) been living past our means by consuming cheap hydocarbons and shifting the cost of the accumulation of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere to future generations. California actually has efforts to correct what is a classic market failure to account for the real cost of auto fuel in terms of air pollution and GHG emissions. Our gas is more expensive relative to other states because they have not made similar sacrifices. The "market" makes the problem worse because refineries out of state can avoid having to produce fuel products that meet California standards, leaving the production of California fuels in the hands of just a few refineries who can more easily manipulate supply and thus prices. Republican resistance to classic market approaches like cap and trade for GHGs has thus far sunk efforts to send clear price signals about the real cost of GHG emissions to every state in the US--which would immediately make our fuel costs look much more reasonable.

I personally wish the Republican party would actually work to create what they espouse--a meaningful market economy. If they did they would be lining up to support anti-trust, they would support limits on corporate lobbying that aim to create rules that benefit individual companies and industries, and would be strongly in favor of prices that include the hidden costs of the everyday goods we buy. We might find ourselves poorer in the short-term, but we would bequeath to our children a livable world.

Early voting starts in 67 days. When does Mr. Coulumbe plan on getting specific about his policy positions ? Why wasn’t he asked about how he’d vote on abortion, SCOTUS reform, or gun control. As a small r Republican will he vote with Democrats on any of these issues?

Hi Ken, I cut out parts of our conversation for the sake of brevity. We didn't discuss gun control, but in the midst of our conversation he did very briefly touch on both SCOTUS reform and abortion, and Coulombe clearly stated he supports the right of states to make their own laws when it comes to abortion, and he would not be supportive of Biden's recently proposed term limits for SCOTUS justices.

Please. Spare me the efficient markets stuff. Well, I guess the critical thing here is how you define efficient. Efficient at relieving poverty? At protecting the climate? And, China? He has talked to the people in China. And, what did he find out about that centralized economy and its all pervasive security state. I fear for this man’s emotional makeup once he encounters people in the bureaucracy who show him that the vast majority of people who work in government actually want to help people. I have met them as coworkers and staff. Surprised that his military experience did not teach him about the better angels of our nature which include altruism and doing well for the sake of doing good.

What are his good ideas??? There's been a lot of development in the last 3 years without much space to put it or infrastructure improvements that the developer pays for.Is he not looking around the county? I'm tired of subsidizing developers and then getting stuck in traffic with other angry drivers!.
