Thinking of heading to the beach to escape the heat?
Go ahead, but take care. Hazardous beach conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday.
When it gets super hot in Sonoma County—the way it was today and the way it’s supposed to be again tomorrow—a lot of folks head for the coast.
That’s cool, but just know that, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), “A northwest swell will lead to increased surf on Wednesday and Thursday, especially on west and northwest-facing beaches.”
According to the NWS, “There are two hazards to be aware of: high surf and sneaker waves. Large, breaking waves create a hazardous surf zone, with breaking waves of 15-20 feet, especially along steep beaches. Sneaker waves can run over 100 feet up a dry beach, pulling people into the water from rocks, jetties, and beaches.”
So stay cool, but stay safe.
Temperatures are expected to drop as the week wears on.
