On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) were dispatched to the 1400 block of Cecilia Drive to reports of several gunshots being heard by area residents. Officers discovered an open back gate and shattered rear sliding glass door at a residence in the area where the shots were heard. Upon further investigation, officers discovered two dogs had been shot at least once each. One dog was deceased, and the other sustained life-threatening injuries. Officers then located Mollie Schefer, the 47-year-old female resident of the home, deceased on the staircase leading to the second floor. Schefer had suffered two gunshot wounds to her chest and died as a result of her injuries.
Detectives with the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team (VCI) have been actively investigating this case and recently identified a 2003 gold Lexus RX believed to be associated to the suspects in this homicide. After additional investigation, VCI detectives connected 50-year-old Felix Carreon and 46-year-old Robert McConlogue, both of Sebastopol, to the vehicle. Detectives followed Carreon’s vehicle while a small team of uniformed SRPD officers contacted and detained McConlogue nearby without incident. Carreon then drove to Summercreek Drive, where he parked his vehicle and began walking toward Yolanda Avenue. A small team of uniformed officers contacted Carreon as he walked through a parking lot near the intersection of Yolanda Avenue and Santa Rosa Avenue. Carreon was also detained without incident.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., detectives served a search warrant at a residence located in the 300 block of Yolanda Avenue, believed to be associated with Carreon. Detectives collected clothing and electronic devices as evidence. At approximately 9:50 p.m., detectives served a search warrant at a residence located in the 2600 block of Burnside Road in Sebastopol, where both Carreon and McConlogue reside.
