“Our dashboard does not look as good as it did last year,” That's the understatement of the year! What is going on at Analy? There used to be excellent teachers who prepared students for elite universities. Or, is it just that half of the students begin and end their day at Safeway and leave periodically during the rest of the day? Analy's data for Math and Language Arts is the same as Elsie Allen's. Thankfully, at least they have an exceptionally expensive football field. No wonder Summerfield and Sonoma Academy are flourishing!
At last a voice of alarm! If I were a parent of an Analy student I would be upset. However, when looked at in comparison with other schools, I suppose the data are not all that bad. Taking College/Career Readiness as the single "best" marker, WSCUHSD scored 41.5% prepared, compared to, for example, Casa Grande 51.1% and Montgomery 28.2%. But less than 50% "prepared"! Good grief!
It's not that Analy students themselves are not aware of the poor education they are receiving. In a 2023 survey of Analy (and Laguna) students, only 23% rated their high school experience positively with regard to "College and Career Readiness." This survey was taken nationally and the Analy result ranked in the bottom 25% of all schools nationally! In the ~18 months since that information was made public at a WSCUHSD board meeting I have not seen a single expression of concern!
There is a constant cry for new affordable housing in the area. Yet if you add up all the fees that are charged for new construction, you could buy a new house in other states for that money. Just because there is money available doesn't mean you have to take it. There is no data to support money will help improve your dashboard. More likely it will be spent to improve the football field.
Developer fees can only be passed on to the homebuyer if the existing asking price is lower than the market will bear. The sales price is determined by the buyer.
