What's happening in local west county races?
Votes are still being counted, but here are the early results
Here's the lowdown on how these local races are looking so far:
Results as of 12:28 am this morning
SUPERVISOR'S RACE
Incumbent Lynda Hopkins ran unopposed for supervisor of the 5th District, which includes Sebastopol, and, surprise, surprise, she is winning hands down. Thus far she's at 100% of votes cast.
MEASURE H: THE FIRE TAX
Ballots are still being counted, but Measure H, the Local Emergency Services and Disaster Response Sales Tax, is looking like a shoe-in, with 61.05% voting yes and 38.96% no thus far. Measure H would generate about $62 million annually and be split between 29 fire agencies in the county. Sebastopol is slated to get 1.8% of that, or $1,116,000 per year to help its perennially underfunded fire department. These funds could be used to hire more fulltime professional firefighters and/or to help renovate the department's aging firehouse.
SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE OFFICE
Sebastopol's Omar Figueroa is losing to Ken English in the race for Superior Court Judge, 31.16% to 68.84%.
MEASURE D: HARMONY UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
Measure D, a $13.5 million bond to modernize and renovate this west county school district's aging elementary schools, is leading by the slightest of margins, with 50.93% voting yes and 49.07% voting no. This measure requires a 55% majority to pass.

DISTRICT 2 STATE ASSEMBLY RACE
Results as of 3:01 am this morning
The Assembly race in the 2nd District is too close to call, with Former Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Rogers (19.6%) and California Democratic Party Chair Rusty Hicks (18.9%) neck and neck. Healdsburg Mayor Ariel Kelly is trailing at 14.3%; Frankie Myers at 10.8%; Ted Williams at 7.1%; and Cynthia Click, who quit the race, at 1.3%.
Right now, the largest vote getter is Republican Michael Greer with 28%, but that's because he was running unopposed on the Republican side. The Democratic vote split between six candidates. The top Democratic and Republican vote getters will face each other in a run-off in November, a race the Democrat is almost certain to win in this deep blue Assembly district.

Because of the large number of mail-in ballots we may not know the final official results of these races for several weeks. The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters has 30 days to issue the final official vote count.
