World of Good mural unveiling
Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3 pm at the Goodwill Building, 6826 Sebastopol Ave., Sebastopol.
Please join the Artstart team in celebration of "World of Good," a new mural. This mural is composed of six boards installed on the East-facing wall of the Goodwill building. The design was created in collaboration with students from Analy High School. See the mural, hear the artists speak, and have a chance to ask any questions about the process for the mural, the design, or our mentorship program. Raffle tickets will be sold and a winner will be drawn, for a sculpture by three local artists.
Sebastopol City Council Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 18, starting at 6 pm on Zoom
This week’s meeting includes a discussion of the Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation Treaty, an informational presentation on Map Your Neighborhood, and the removal of a provision preventing businesses that have "coin-operated play devices" from serving alcohol when minors are present (with the goal of permitting at retro arcade bar in the Barlow). Analy High School Showcase Night
Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Analy High School, 6950 Analy Ave., Sebastopol
This event for families considering sending their middle school students to Analy. The school will be showcasing all of the programs that they have to offer to our students. The evening will start with performances from our jazz combo, video production, choir, drama, and our dance team. Then, families will make their way to the gym to enjoy treats from the Culinary class, exhibits from the different departments, and tours to see their CTE programs. Come out and have a great time and see what Analy High School has to offer.
College Application Writing Workshop
4-part class beginning Wednesday, Oct. 19, 5 to 7 pm at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. Cost: $440.00
This four-part class offers students the opportunity to write, be coached, get feedback, and revise college application writing. There are four two-hour classes: Wednesday, Oct. 19,; Thursday, Oct. 20; Wednesday, Oct. 26; Thursday, Oct. 27. All classes are from 5 to 7 pm. Sign up here.
Sebastopol City Council Candidate Meet and Greet
Thursday, Oct. 20, 6 to 7:30 pm at Gravenstein Grill, 8050 Bodega Ave, Sebastopol.
Come and meet the candidates for the Sebastopol City Council in this event sponsored by the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce. The candidates will be given three minutes to describe their platforms, but most of the evening will be a casual meet and greet. Everyone is invited, so come on out and get to know the candidates in a relaxed, informal setting where you can to get see who they are as people and ask them any questions that are on your mind.
Food Localization Action Group Meeting with author Emily Murphy
Thursday, Oct. 20, 6 to 8 pm at Sebastopol Grange Hall, 6000 Sebastopol Ave. (Hwy 12), Sebastopol. Donation.
Emily Murphy, author of "GROW NOW: How We Can Save Our Health, Communities, and Planet — One Garden at a Time," will appear at the Sebastopol Grange on Oct. 20. The places we plant and grow have the power to improve personal health and the planet’s health, acting as a critical source for positive environmental change. Emily Murphy outlines how to enact change beginning in the landscapes closest to home with regenerative practices scaled for individuals and communities. We have a potluck at 6 pm (bring your own picnic set - cup, bowl, plate, utensils) and a dish to share. The program begins at 7 pm. (Attending program only is fine.)

An Evening of Tango with Las Almas
Friday, Oct. 21, 7 to 9pm at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. $20-25
Meet the international trio that is changing the face of tango music in "An Evening of Tango with Las Almas.” All three — Korean-born pianist Sumi Lee, now of San Francisco; Panamanian bandoneon (concertina/accordion) player Heyni Solera from Washington, D.C., and Chinese-American violinist Teagan Faran from New York — have both classical musical training in the United States and advanced study at La Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce, the most prestigious tango orchestra school in Buenos Aires.
