Learning Laguna Docent Training Orientation
Tuesday, Jan. 23, 10 am to noon at Laguna Environmental Center, 900 Sanford Road, Santa Rosa. Free.
The Learning Laguna school program for 3rd grade students has been going strong for years because of the skill and passion of committed community members who step-up, participate in training, then share the wonders of the Laguna with school children. Think you might like to do this? Come to one of these two orientations to find out what the docent training program entails. The actual training program takes place on eight Tuesdays between February 13 – April 16. Register here for the orientation.
Friends of Sebastopol Library Book Sale
Wednesday, Jan. 24-27, at Sebastopol Regional Library, 7140 Bodega Ave., Sebastopol. Free.
Sale includes adult/children/teen books. Most books are bargain priced at $1, even the newest fiction. Most children and teen books are 25-50 cents. The sale is open to all. Proceeds help the Sebastopol Library continue its mission of providing great reading, wonderful free programs and fantastic services to West County. Cash or check please. Art 101: Painting Pet Portraits

Pruning Class with Fred and Kamala
Saturday, Jan. 27, 10 am to 2 pm and 1 to 3 pm at Harmony Farm Supply & Nursery, 3244 Gravenstein Hwy N., Sebastopol. Free but you must register. Limited space. Call 707-823-9125 to register.
Fred Frey and Kamala from Vintage tree care will be teaching a hands-on fruit tree pruning class at Harmony Farm Supply. Fred has over 25 of years of experience in the arboriculture field, with specialized training in fruit tree care and structural pruning. Participants will learn basic tree anatomy and how it relates to proper tree structure, weight management and fruitwood distribution in a given species. Pruning tool handling and use will be covered as well as a basic ladder use as it applies to fruit tree care. If weather permits, this will be an outdoor hands-on workshop, so dress appropriately and bring your own hand or lopping shears.
Patrick Amiot Home and Studio Tour
Saturday, Jan. 27, 11 am to 1 pm. You'll receive details about the visit a week or so before the event. $95.
Take a trip into the wondrous home and studio of the Florence Avenue artists Patrick and Brigitte Amiot. They'll show you around, tell stories about their rich life as artists, and give you the opportunity to ask questions about what they do. Get tickets.
Mixed Media Techniques on Collage
Saturday, Jan. 27, 11 am to 3 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. $125.
Learn fun mixed media techniques to embellish your collage artwork, such as adding texture and patina, mark-making, layering, glazing, and image transfer. This workshop is appropriate for anyone interested in mixed media art, collage, or art journaling. You will have an opportunity to try various art supplies on mini-collage samples provided for you. You are also welcome to bring your own collage to work on. Reserve your spot.
Forestville Chamber of Commerce Crab Feed

Chef Demo at the Farmers Market: Yaki Soba Noodle Stir Fry
Sunday, Jan. 28, 10 am at the Sebastopol Farmers Market in the downtown plaza
Rescheduled to this weekend due to the weather. On Sunday, Jan. 28, Analy High Culinary Arts students Parker and Jonas will demonstrate stir-fry cooking techniques with seasonal farmers market vegetables and yaki soba to create a delicious noodle dish. Small bite tasting and recipe cards will be made available for free for all market visitors – while supplies last.
