Benefit Screening of a film about Ukraine for Roots of Peace
Tuesday, August 22, 1 pm and 7 pm at Rialto Cinemas, 6868 McKinley St., Sebastopol. $20.
Rialto Cinemas is hosting two screenings of Bernard-Henri Lévy’s 2023 political documentary, Slava Ukraini, from the frontlines of Ukraine to benefit California-based non-profit Roots of Peace. Conversation with Roots of Peace founder/CEO and 2023 World Food Prize Laureate Heidi Kühn as well as a representative of the Consulate General of Ukraine following screening at the 7 pm show. Roots of Peace works to restore agriculture to de-mined land in former war zones across the world including Afghanistan, Vietnam, and now, Ukraine. Get tickets.
Peacetown returns to Ives Park
Wednesday, August 23, 5 pm to 7 pm at Ives Park, 7400 Willow St., Sebastopol. Free.
Peacetown is returning to Ives Park for the last three shows of the season. So many friends have asked the question, "When is Peacetown going back to Ives Park?" The answer is on Wednesday, August 23, from 5 to 7:30 pm, with Sebastopol’s very own Reggae Band, Sol Horizon.
Fire Services Town Hall
Thursday, August 24, 6 pm to 8 pm at Community Church of Sebastopol, 1000 Gravenstein Highway North, Sebastopol. Free.
As the city of Sebastopol continues to explore options for the future of its fire department, Sebastopol’s Ad Hoc Fire Services Committee is looking for input from the community. This in-person only Town Hall meeting provides an opportunity for citizens to let the committee know of specific interests and concerns as the topic moves forward.
Rhone Rendezvous Wine Tasting

Sebastopol History Walk
Saturday, August 26, 9 am. Meet at the downtown plaza. Free
In a walk of about 1.5 miles in the Northeast quadrant of Sebastopol, we will continue our History Walk theme of “That was Then, This is Now,” comparing what we see with our eyes today with what once was through enlarged old photos from the archives. From the Plaza to Brown Street, east to the old Barlow area, through the streets of The Barlow, to Johnson St and up to Analy High School, down to the Methodist Church and then all of North Main back to the Plaza, you will hear stories from the past. We should finish by 11 am. Leader: Don Madronich (volunteer at the West County Museum).
Women's Suffrage History Pop-up
Saturday, August 26, 11 am to 2 pm at West County Museum, 261 S Main St, Sebastopol. Free.
The West County Museum will be hosting a one-day history pop-up on August 26 in front of the museum about the suffrage for women’s right to vote. This date in history, 103 years ago, was when the 19th amendment to the Constitution was ratified. Stop by and see how Sebastopol was a part of this movement.
Art Walk – Gallery and Garden Open at the Laguna de Santa Rosa
Saturday, August 26, 12 pm to 3 pm, at the Laguna Environmental Center, 900 Sanford Road, Santa Rosa. Free.
Enjoy our current exhibit, "ʔay:a:kʰe čahnu" ("Our Language") by Nicole Jones, then check out our native plant garden. Artist and illustrator, Nicole Jones, is exhibiting her whimsical paintings of native flora and fauna paired with her native language. Nicole is a Southern Pomo citizen of The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. Her current work is based on her Southern Pomo culture and language. Visitors are also welcome to bring a lunch and sit at the picnic tables. Garden Tours at 1 pm and 2 pm.
Summer Swing: Dogwood Animal Rescue Fundraiser

Cranes for Ukraine Fold-in

In partnership with several cities’ Ukrainian sister city programs, join Sonoma County Japanese American Citizens at the Sebastopol Regional Library for an Origami Crane "Fold-In" for Ukraine. The paper crane in Japanese culture symbolizes peace, compassion, hope and healing. Show our solidarity with Ukraine by using the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding (origami) to fold paper cranes. Every single act of crane folding expresses our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and will promote world peace.
Le Hot Club Swing, Gypsy/Manouche Jazz
Sunday, August 27, 2 pm to 4 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. Free.
Le Hot Club Swing is a Gyspy Jazz, Manouche/Swing band in the style of the Hot Club of France from the 1930s and 1940s. The band’s repertoire combines well-known standards as well as more obscure but compelling songs emphasizing skilled instrumental playing. Band leader Rick Fulkerson on guitar, Rhonda Berney on mandolin, Jan Kahdeman on guitar and Tami Pallingston on upright bass. Each have been a part of the Sonoma County live music scene for many years, playing in groups such as the Blue Moon Dance band, Haute Flash Quartet and Swing Fling.
