Winter Produce Exchange and General Meeting at The Sebastopol Grange
Tuesday, Feb. 27, 5 to 5:45 pm (Produce Exchange), 5:30 pm onward (General meeting) at the Sebastopol Grange Hall, 6000 Sebastopol Ave. (Hwy. 12), Sebastopol. Produce exchange is free. Suggested donation for meeting is $10.
Bring greens, winter squash, seeds to exchange, then stay, if you like, for the general meeting which will feature a potluck dinner, music and an interesting program (“egg crate relationships”). Bring a dish to share and your own dishes and utensils. They’ll serve tamales made by The California Homemakers Association. (UPDATE: If you bring citrus to the Produce Exchange, please remove leaves and stems and wash the citrus to help prevent the spread of the Asian Citrus Psyllid.)
Coffee with a Council Member: Stephen Zollman
Wednesday, Feb. 28, 10 am to 11:30 am at Brew Brothers Coffee, 962 Gravenstein Highway S., Sebastopol. Free, but you need to buy your own coffee.
Come to the second Coffee with a Councilmember. This week meet and chat with Vice Mayor Stephen Zollman at Brew Brothers (formerly Avid Coffee). The last Coffee with a Councilmember was jammed so get there early.
6th Annual Snail of Approval/Slow Food in Sonoma County Awards Ceremony
Wednesday, Feb. 28, 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Sebastopol Grange, 6000 Sebastopol Ave., Sebastopol. $15.
Snail of Approval is a recognition given to food businesses that pursue and practice Slow Food values of good, clean and fair food for all. As a locally run but internationally recognized program, Snail of Approval is a powerful recognition. Slow Food in Sonoma County, a joint project of two local Slow Food chapters, Sonoma County North and Russian River, will be honoring 12 local restaurants, farms and artisan producers at its 6th annual awards ceremony at the Sebastopol Grange. Chamber of Commerce Lunch with Supervisor Lynda Hopkins
Thursday, Feb. 29 at noon at Americana, 162 N. Main St., Sebastopol. $25.
Informal lunch with Supervisor Hopkins, a chance to ask her questions in a casual setting. $25 per person for lunch and chat. RSVP and pay ahead at the Chamber of Commerce office.
Writers' Salon at SebARTS - First meeting
Thursday, Feb. 29, 4 to 6 pm at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 South High St., Sebastopol. $10.
Join us at the Writers' Salon, a monthly in-person gathering on the last Thursday of the month. Each person will have five minutes to read their work. Any type of writing is welcome including prose, poetry, essay, etc. Get feedback and insights from your fellow writers. Light refreshments will be served. Reserve your spot.
Experimental Paper Sculpture
Friday, March 1, 11 am to 5 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 South High St., Sebastopol. $180.
For anyone interested in using handmade paper to create sculptural forms with armatures, this is the class for you! You’ll learn building methods for armatures and ways to wrap and dip armatures in handmade paper prepared in a way that is called "high shrinkage." In this method, paper pulp has been beaten for a long period of time to absorb a large amount of water, and dramatic transformations can occur when the form dries. Papermaking is a wet process so please wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. Papermaking also involves some lifting and arm movements. Reserve your spot.
Safe Driving through the Aging Process
Friday, March 1, 3 pm, at Sebastopol Area Senior Center, 167 N. High St. Sebastopol. $10.
Developed specifically for senior drivers as a practical, entertaining and realistic approach to the issue of “senior drivers vs. the aging process.” This presentation takes a direct yet compassionate approach to the very sensitive subject of recognizing that someday it may be time to relinquish some of that treasured driving independence. The ultimate goal is not to take away driving opportunities of older drivers, but rather to offer suggestions on how to recognize and compensate for diminishing skills so that seniors may remain on the roadways as safe drivers. Chimera Arts, Sonoma County’s maker space, continues their First Fridays at Chimera Arts, a showcase of our local maker community. There will be live music, activities and live demonstrations, and food and beverages to purchase.
Barlow Tasting Tour
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, March 1-3, 11:30 to 1 pm at the Barlow, 6770 McKinley St., Sebastopol. $75 per person.
This tasting tour showcases the specialty food and wine offerings of The Barlow, from handmade English cheese to classically foot-stomped wine. The tour will last 90 minutes and consist of seven stops, with multiple tastes and sips along the way. Reserve your spot.
UC Master Gardeners - Good Bugs vs. Bad Bugs

Join Bruce Robinson of UC Master Gardeners in distinguishing good bugs vs. bad bugs on March 2 at the Sebastopol Library. This talk will assist home gardeners in creating productive vegetable gardens using insectary plants that are intentionally introduced to attract the “good” bugs to your garden. Docent Tour at Hidden Forest Botanical Reserve

Plant ecologist Mike Boss will lead you on a guided tour through the Hidden Forest Botanical Reserve showing you seasonal highlights of the forest, including unique and rarely seen plants. Wear sturdy shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather and be prepared to be awed and inspired by natures beauty, diversity, and interconnectedness.
