North Bay Farm Community Annual Gathering
Tuesday, Jan. 9, 6 to 8:30 pm at the Sebastopol Grange, 6000 Sebastopol Road (Hwy. 12), Sebastopol. Free.
Come to the annual gathering for the North Bay farm community. Join fellow farmers and local food advocates for a potluck meal at this free event. Sarah Keiser of Wild Oat Hollow Farm in Penngrove will kick off the evening with a presentation on Community Grazing Co-ops and other successful projects around the North Bay. Next we'll hear from Julia Van Solen Kim, UCCE Food Systems Specialist, and Maria Wnorowski of Petaluma Bounty, on Market Match as a win-win for local food producers and low-income residents. Stick around for small group discussions to dig deeper into the evening's topics, plus local water issues and new resources for specialty crop growers. Plenty of time for socializing too; all are welcome! Potluck at 6 pm. Please bring a dish to share and your own eating utensils.

Learning Laguna Docent Training Orientation
Friday, Jan. 12, 10 to noon or Tuesday, Jan. 23, 10 am to noon at Laguna Environmental Center, 900 Sanford Road, Santa Rosa. Free.
The Learning Laguna school program for 3rd grade students has been going strong for years because of the skill and passion of committed community members who step-up, participate in training, then share the wonders of the Laguna with school children. Think you might like to do this? Come to one of these two orientations to find out what the docent training program entails. The actual training program takes place on eight Tuesdays between February 13 – April 16. Register here for the orientation.
Intro to Slab Built Ceramics
Friday, Jan. 12, 2:30 to 4:30 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. $160 + $35 clay fee.
You will learn how to make pottery with both hard and soft slabs. The slab building technique involves rolling out clay to an even thickness then cutting shapes, folding, bending, manipulating and joining together to form a finished object. Each class will begin with a new demo and you will also get one-on-one guidance. Stamping and glazing will also be demonstrated. Ages 13 and up. Reserve your spot.
Meditative Sound Bath Experience
Friday, Jan. 12, 6:30 pm, at Wischemann Hall, 465 Morris St., Sebastopol. $35.
Mystical Meditative Sound Bath Experience every second Friday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Bathe in a sonic symphony of mystical tones and vibrations produced by six paiste gongs, crystal singing bowls, hand pan, mono chord, chimes galore, rain sticks, ocean drum, native drum, sansula, angelic vocals and more. Trimates, a jazz trio
Friday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 pm at the Music To My Ears Theater (Formerly Main Stage West), 104 Main St., Sebastopol. $20.
The band, Trimates, featuring John Simon on piano, drummer Kendrick Freeman, and bassist Tom Shader is a joyful collaboration of three musical partners who have worked together for decades, acting as the backup trio for many Bay Area singers and instrumentalists. In addition to the eclectic jazz, they feature a number of tunes that showcase three-part vocal harmonies, especially focusing on original music composed by John and Tom. Get tickets.
Brazilian Drum Workshop

Woodshop: Woodworking 101

Get started making things with wood. A great introduction to the tools and techniques you’ll need to make awesome projects out of wood. King of Hearts (1966) at Sebastopol Library
Sunday, Jan. 14, 1:15 pm to 4:15 pm at the Sebastopol Regional Library, 7140 Bodega Ave., Sebastopol. Free.
An unforgettable film. During World War I, Scottish soldier Private Plumpick is sent on a mission to a village in the French countryside to disarm a bomb set by the retreating German army. Plumpick encounters a strange town occupied by the former residents of the local psychiatric hospital who escaped after the villagers deserted.
King St. Giants at HopMonk
Sunday, Jan. 14, at 5 pm at HopMonk, 230 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. $20.
Since 2012 the King Street Giants have brought their own special version of New Orleans music to the Bay Area and beyond. Whether they’re playing in clubs or on the streets, they radiate energy and always have a blast. While continuing to play the music of their jazz heroes, they have also been writing original music in an effort to continue to evolve the idiom of Traditional New Orleans Jazz. (And yes, that’s Analy band director Casey Jones on the clarinet!) This event is a fundraiser for the Hillcrest Middle School Band. Get tickets.
