Second Nature: Gender & Sexuality in the Animal World

Narrated by Elliot Page, this 82-minute documentary follows evolutionary biologist Dr. Joan Roughgarden as she explores the 1,500-plus animal species that engage in same-sex behavior, parenting, sex change, and matriarchy—upending old assumptions about what’s “natural.” A Q&A with Santa Rosa biologist and author Joan Roughgarden and editor Jennifer Steinman Sternin follows both screenings. Peacetown at Ives — the final week

Local music legend, Eric Lindell, and the Westside Summer League, will close the season with original rock and blues, featuring our Peacetown emcee, Johnny Campbell on drums, and an all-star cast of Sonoma County musicians. Eric will perform from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.
Opening the show (5 pm to 6 pm) will be Delta Blues fingerpicker, Tony Magee, who is also the founder of Lagunitas Brewery. Tony built a loyal fan base for his beer, by donating to every non-profit organization that requested beer donations. Although he sold the company to Heiniken, he still loves to give beer away. Show up early to catch Tony’s masterful picking.
Bob Culbertson, the Master of the Chapman Stick, will be playing a tweener set at 6 pm.
Peacetown, also will be honoring the City of Sebastopol for being a sponsor and supporter of our Summer Concert Series for these many years.
Friends of the Library Book Sale

Sale includes adult/children/teen books and is open to all. Most books are bargain-priced at $1, even the newest fiction. Most children and teen books are 25-50 cents. The Bluebyrds (Peacetown at Hopmonk)

Art Trails is a free, self-guided, countywide art tour presented by Sebastopol Center for the Arts for two weekends in October, but the exhibition for this event starts this week, with an opening reception on Friday. The exhibition runs from September 10 to October 18. Learn more.

A Friday-night double bill at HopMonk featuring The Occasionals with The Aux Cajunals. The Occasionals play great urban blues, swing jazz, classic country, pop, rock and gypsy jazz. This is a congregation of top-shelf talent. Made of players from many well-known North Bay bands, including The Familiar Strangers, Back Porchestra, The Gypsy Trio, Shana Morrison, Jesse DeNatale and more. Come join a free two-part emergency preparedness workshop, tailored to older adults, put on by Emergency Prep Help (EPH). Participants learn about: making a personalized emergency plan, fire and evacuation safety, emergency go-bags, earthquake readiness, supplies to keep at home, car preparations, securing important documents, pet safety in evacuation, 2-1-1 resources, and more.
