Amazing new summer camps for kids starting this week at Sebastopol Center for the Arts and the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center.
First Tuesdays Wonderland Drum Circle & Potluck
Tuesday, July 1, 5 pm to 8 pm, at 790 Hurlbut, Sebastopol. By donation.
Gather in rhythm, community, and celebration to help save Miss Daisy’s Magical Wonderland — a sacred land and living vision for the New Earth. This gathering happeens the first Tuesday of each month. Enjoy a community drum circle led by talented local professional drummers, followed by a nourishing potluck dinner. This is a family-friendly event where all are welcome — no experience necessary, just bring your joy, your heartbeat, a drum or instrument, and a dish to share. Facilitated drumming—5 pm to 6:30 pm; open Jam and potluck—6:30 pm until sunset; kids encouraged. Please park on Hwy. 116 or in the Lucky’s parking lot. Learn more.
Sebastopol City Council Meeting
Tuesday, July 1, 6 pm, at the Sebastopol Youth Annex, 425 Morris St., Sebastopol. Free.
Continued public hearings on the city budget and the capital improvement program. The council will also discuss the library report; city protocols; a water-sewer oversight committee; a report from West County Community Services; and the appointment of an interim city manager.
Peacetown Summer Concert Series

Come party in the park with Peacetown. Batachá and Bring Joy perform at Peacetown this week. Beer, wine, food trucks, and fun.
Summer Concert Series at The Barlow
Wednesday, July 2, 4 pm to 8 pm, at The Barlow, 6770 McKinley St., Sebastopol. Free.
Join the Barlow each Wednesday for live music, a street market, food, beer, wine, and fun. The concert on July 2 features Analog Dog.
Silent Vigil for Peace in the Middle East
Wednesday, July 2, at 6 pm to 6:30 pm at the Living Peace Wall between the Rialto and the plaza. Free.
Gather in silence every Wednesday evening for a brief peace vigil. Stand together in the memory of all those who have died in the conflict, and all those who are suffering with hunger and fear, in the hope of a true and lasting ceasefire. No flags, no signs, no speeches.
July 3rd Fireworks and Music Extravaganza
Thursday, July 3, 4 pm to 10 pm, on Morris Street and at the Community Cultural Center. $20 adults, $5 ages 6-11. Children under five are free. Premium tickets $55.
Gates will open at 4 pm, and the nighttime aerial pyrotechnics are scheduled to launch by 9:30 pm. In between will be hours of live music, food trucks and booths, activities for children and families, a new beer and wine garden (available to premium ticket holders AND anyone who buys wine/beer tickets). Several blocks of Morris Street, between Laguna Parkway and Johnson Street, will be closed off for the occasion. The Kiwanis Club is offering a free shuttle from the O’Reilly campus on North Gravenstein Highway to transport people to the party zone. See our story on this year’s 3rd of July celebration.
Film and discussion: To Have and Have Not
Wednesday, July 2, 1 pm and 7 pm, at Rialto Cinemas, 6868 McKinley St., Sebastopol. $10.
This month’s film, “To Have and Have Not,” is presented by Rialto Cinemas Sebastopol and hosted by Indivisible Sonoma County. In Vichy France, fishing boat captain Harry (Humphrey Bogart) avoids getting involved in politics, refusing to smuggle French Resistance fighters into Martinique. But when a Resistance client is shot before he can pay, Harry agrees to help hotel owner Gerard smuggle two fighters to the island. Harry is further swayed by Slim (Lauren Bacall), a wandering American girl, and when the police take his friend Eddie hostage, he is forced to fight for the Resistance. The 7 pm show will be followed by a panel discussion. Get tickets.
Hand-building Wednesdays
Wednesday, July 2, 1:30 pm to 4 pm, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 South High St., Sebastopol. Sliding scale: $55/$65/$75 (limited availability for each price slot)
This course is designed for new and returning students wishing to improve their clay hand-building skills and enjoy being a part of the SebArts clay studio community. Each session will start with a demonstration of a specific project related to functional pottery. Class time will also include unstructured time for students to explore special projects and consult with the instructor as needed. Sculptors are also encouraged to take this class. Week 1: Pinch pots, coils, and texture. Week 2: Slips, slabs, and slump molds. Week 3: Glazing success strategies. The class fee includes firing/glazing, and five pounds of recycled clay. Students may purchase other clay for an additional fee online. Reserve your spot.
Kind & Firm Positive Discipline Workshop

“Wonder and Whimsy”—New exhibition artist reception
Saturday, July 5, 2 pm to 4 pm, at Showstoppers Artist Collective, 186 North Main St., Suite 110, Sebastopol. Free.
Artist reception for new exhibiting artists Rebecca Alex (oil paintings), Ed Lark (nature photography), Shelly Garrett (collage and mixed media); and Barbara Jacobs (abstract and collage). A welcoming atmosphere with fun, frivolity and beautiful art. Showstoppers Artist Collective has a fun creation station open every day 11 am – 5pm. Make a cool collage, watercolor painting or puppet. All the materials supplied for a nominal fee. A professional artist is nearby for guidance or questions.
The Belonging Project Opening Reception
Sunday, July 6, 12 pm to 2 pm, at the outdoor exhibition in the empty lot across from the downtown plaza, Sebastopol.
Come to the opening reception for the Belonging Project, the art exhibit in the empty lot across from the plaza. 12 pm to 1 pm: SebArts members only—meet the artists and mingle with other members at a picnic-style reception in downtown Sebastopol. Bring your picnic lunch and enjoy light refreshments in the center of all the art. 1 pm to 2 pm: General public—come to the official kick-off of the Belonging Project.
