Sebastopol City Council Meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6 pm, at the Sebastopol Youth Annex, 425 Morris St., Sebastopol. Free.
The council will discuss fee waivers for the Peacetown Summer Concert series ($5,000) and Many Moons Festival ($750). They will also consider approval of the Citywide Paving Improvement multi-year plan, including which streets will get fixed over the next year, and Library Reconstruction work in the amount of $74,250.They’ll also examine the work plans for various city commissions and committees. The hottest ticket of the evening will be the discussion of the Sebastopol Commons committee’s final report and their request for additional staff and attorney time ($40,000-$50,000) for a fiscal analysis of the City purchase of the O’Reilly buildings ($20 million dollars). Jewish Film Festival: The Stamp Thief

“The Stamp Thief” is part detective story, part heist film, and part untold history. The documentary investigates a tale dating back to the Holocaust: that a mysterious Nazi stole priceless stamp collections from concentration camp victims and buried the stolen stamps in a small town in Poland. Embarking on a real-life “Argo”-like adventure, one-time “Seinfeld” producer Gary Gilbert sets out to confirm the story and recover the stamps. His tactic: a fake movie shoot. His goal: to return the stamps to their rightful owners, hopefully delivering a small measure of justice more than 70 years after the Holocaust. Get tickets.

In early 2026, a team of filmmakers, including former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, wondered what it would be like to invite 30- and 80-year-olds to gather in conversation about America. Mixed Media Collage Class

For those of you concerned about Sebastopol Roads, the Pavement Report is on the Agenda. Item #10. It list upcoming pavement projects. Here's an excerpt from the Staff Report:
"The City's current Pavement Management Plan identifies approximately $20.8 million in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation needs over the period evaluated by the PMP. The City's planned pavement funding is substantially less than this amount, requiring the City to prioritize which streets are addressed and when. For FY 2026-27, the adopted
CIP includes $612,800 for the Citywide Pavement Repairs and Repaving Program, funded through Measure U. This funding is intended to support pavement treatments and improvements throughout the City." Measure U seems to be working but we have a long way to go to meet the $20 million need.
At tonight's Council meeting, people might want to ask about our Sewer System and El Niño. A document on the Consent Calendar concerns an update to the Sewer Master Plan. One outstanding item from 2020, that the EFOC has been asking about in its meeting, is Sewer Capacity. As previously mentioned, the Sewer System takes on water via leaky clay pipes during rains. The rains are supposed to be heavy this year. We also have new developments. Will our system be able to handle it? When it rains and the clay pipes take on storm water, the system is strained as it has to pump and process more water. This is also expensive for Ratepayers as they pay for the energy to pump rain water and pay for the unnecessary processing of rainwater. Of course, Council will not be focused on this nor will it be focused on financing Well #4 or enacting the Prop. 218 Compliance changes to the Cost Allocation Plan because it will spend the majority of its time talking about the Commons.
