Science Buzz Cafe: First New Musical Instrument of the Century
Monday, July 28, 6 pm, at HopMonk, 230 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. $10.
The Handpan is a beautiful hand-crafted piece of art made of nitrided steel with seven notes in the key of D. Colin Foulke will share his stories, Handpan musical instrument development and its recent worldwide popularity. He will describe his innovative manufacturing technique while also explaining the science behind the art. We will also hear him play.
Film: “Soldiers of Song” at the Rialto
Monday, July 28, 7 pm, at Rialto Cinemas Sebastopol, 6868 McKinley St., Sebastopol. $15.25.
Sebastopol’s John Namkung is organizing a benefit showing of “Soldiers of Song,” a powerful “independent documentary film about Ukrainian musicians inspiring unity and courage amidst the chaos of war.” This is part of Namkung’s effort to raise money to send children in war-torn Ukraine to summer camp. International Fiber Arts XII exhibition (final weekend)
Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm at Sebastopol Centr for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. $15. (Tuesday is a free day.)
This week is your last chance to see this gorgeous exhibition—a vibrant celebration of contemporary textile art featuring 90 distinguished artists. Whether it’s woven, stitched, dyed, felted, or pieced together, fiber is one of the most ancient and universal forms of creativity. This is the final weekend of the exhibition. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. General admission is usually $15, but this Tuesday is a free day.
Sip & Shop at Goatlandia Kitchen

Sebastopol Library Advisory Board Open House

The Sebastopol Library Advisory Board (LAB) is inviting the community to come and learn more about what the LAB does and have an opportunity to ask questions about the purpose of the LAB and how to become involved. Share your thoughts about the Sebastopol Library. Meet the new branch manager. There will also be a chance to give feedback on what you would like to see happening at the library.
Peacetown Summer Concert Series

The Space Orchestra, under the direction of Sebastian St. James, will bring their “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” show to Peacetown this Wednesday at Ives Park. Opening the show will be King Baby and the Mighty Bogarts from 5 pm to 6 pm. Families welcome. Come laugh, sing and dance.
Peacetown Summer Concert Series at HopMonk Tavern: Solid Air

Silent Vigil for Peace in the Middle East
Wednesday, July 30, 6 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Living Peace Wall between the Rialto and the plaza. Free.
Gather in silence every Wednesday evening for a brief peace vigil. Stand together in the memory of all those who have died in the conflict, and all those who are suffering hunger and fear, in the hope of a true and lasting ceasefire. No flags, no signs, no speeches.
Chimera First Fridays Open House

Chimera Arts, Sonoma County’s maker space, continues their First Fridays at Chimera Arts, a showcase of the local maker community. There will be live music, food and beverages, activities and live demonstrations.
Potluck Community Picnic at Ragle
Friday, Aug. 1, 5:30 om to 7:30 pm, at Ragle Ranch Park, Lions Grove Picnic Area, 500 Ragle Road, Sebastopol. Free, but parking is $7.
Come join the Regional Parks for a fun-filled evening at Ragle Ranch Park. Bring your favorite dish to share with the community and enjoy a delicious meal together. This picnic will be the perfect place for everyone to come together to share good food and get to know one another. We have a beautiful, shaded venue to enjoy one another’s company and hopefully make new friends. Please bring your favorite potluck dish to share and plate, utensils and beverage cup for yourself. Learn many techniques to create exciting and unique mixed media weavings on a simple loom (supplied for you). You'll learn many stitches to weave in yarn and fabric, and then add beads, jewelry parts and all sorts of fun embellishments to create a textured and lively piece. You’ll also learn to make special tassels, pompoms, and fringes to add on to the body and edges of your weaving. Cheesemaking 101
