It will be ghastly. I started out to a couple of shops on Main Street 2 days ago and went somewhere else. Yesterday, just went out of town. Between the two way streets and moving the library and other offices to the O'Reilly building, Main Street will be a ghost town. It's so depressing.
Here the word from Vanessa Garrett, Deputy Director - Engineering and Maintenance, Sonoma County Public Infrastructure:
Q: Do you know if the whole road is being repaired at once or are they taking it in sections?
A: Occidental Road is being repaved from the Santa Rosa city limits to High School Rd. The repair has phases, first performing road base work on the road and then the second is an asphalt overlay. The overlay will take place in sections, with traffic local traffic being allowed but not through traffic. The scheduled completion date for the overlay is 9/3.
Q: Do you have a timeline for sections--also from where to where?
A: The first phase will wrap today, 8/27. The second phase (overlay) is planned to take place until 9/3. The sections day to day are difficult to gauge since it depends on how much progress can be made each day. After the overlay is complete the contractor will need to complete paving of driveway aprons, place culvert delineators, re-stripe the road and cleanup. We are currently planning to have all items of work completed 9/14.
Q: A reader said the sign now says Occidental will be closed until the 14th, not the 3rd. Is that correct?
A: The full road closure is expected to be complete on 9/3. The road will then be open but still expect delays, since the contractor will still be performing work on the roadway until 9/14, with intermittent closures with the exception of local traffic.
Super. Super. Frustrating. Zero communication from County to community. I see one sign up in front of Analy. None anywhere else with a timeline.
Thanks for writing about it.
When it should take 8 min to drive to school and it takes 26 min? What will the new plan for a two way traffic change in town be like when it begins?

Glad Linda Hopkins was well informed. Guess she forgot to let Sebastopol know. Maybe encourage a plan. Too functional I guess.
Is there a schedule showing which parts of Occidental Rd are closed or are they doing the entire road from at the same time.
Have requested this from Public Infrastructure Dept.

I was wondering about this. Hope it is over by the 3rd
