I am concerned about parking. I often don’t stop downtown because there is no parking anywhere. This hurts businesses.
Also, I understand the need to protect people on bikes, but as I drive on Petaluma Avenue, the bike lane is very rarely if ever used. Traffic backs up which is a bit annoying. Sorry to say.
Unconnected thoughts: 1) It seems to me that, if Main St. is made two-way, cars traveling south on Main St. and wishing to turn east on to Hwy 12 would cause inordinate backups for north - south traffic. Witness the number of cars usually waiting to turn left now - in the designated left turn lane.. 2) The real "fix" the downtown needs is to build a hotel on the vacant lot that provides foot traffic customers for Main St. shops and motivates entrepreneurs to make themselves more attractive. 3) In general, are these solutions in search of a problem? (occasioned by the availability of a "free" CalTrans grant).
Laura, thank you for handling this complex subject in a clear and understandable way.
