Great article, and the shop is a great asset to the community, hosting classes and gatherings as well as gifts & magical supplies. Part of what makes Main St in Sebastopol unique from every other downtown area… yay for 30 years!!!
Really interesting article. I am curious if they acknowledge the Roma origins of tarot and how it has been coopted by many Europeans and their relationship to practicing it so actively, considering the particularly vulnerable state of many Roma communities and the women who practice it in them? It was not mentioned in the pan-cultural paragraph
A quick look says the cards were created by Italian noblemen. The Roma use them and I suspect we get a lot of our present day Tarot practices from them but the cards are Italian.
Interesting! I stand corrected :) But it does seem also correct that much of popular practice and tarot reading as a job is directly connected to Romani peoples, and so I think my overall point is still valid.
