Music, Hope, and Home: A Night for Ukraine

Sebastopol World Friends continues to support the Chyhyryn, Ukraine dormitory renovation project, aiming to fully fund the renovation of the third block of living space by the end of 2025 (see the Dormitory Renovation blog post for more details). Each “block” includes four sleeping areas for 8–12 people, two bathrooms, and a kitchen/living space.

Renovating each block costs approximately $23,000 USD. Of the twelve blocks needing renovation, two have been fully funded and completed by Sebastopol World Friends. The third is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The next step toward this goal is a special community screening of Soldiers of Song, an acclaimed 2024 documentary directed by Ryan Smith about musicians helping Ukrainians cope with the impact of war. The film premiered to critical acclaim at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.

The screening, presented in partnership with Sebastopol Rotary, Rotary District 5130, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, will take place at 7 PM on August 21 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the sanctuary, 500 Robinson Rd., Sebastopol. Doors open at 6 PM for a wine and beer reception. Admission is $40.
