I’m curious why the Rite Aid site isn’t listed for demolition and rebuild. That seems like the perfect site for the Senior Center, the library, and City Hall. It could become a beautiful landmark on that corner right in the heart of the city!

It’s listed as one of the six options.

Great point. I agree and hope they will add that to the options for consideration.

Hopefully the Grocery Outlet application will be denied since it so inconsistent with the town's Master Plan. If it's approved, the floodgates will open for every chain store there is. If Grocery Outlet why not us they will ask? And sue. Grocery Outlet is currently closing 9 California locations leaving those less profitable communities behind. Which of our locally owned groceries would we like to see pushed out by Grocery Outlet, which will initially feature low prices, kill the locals, then raise prices when they are gone. Then leave.

Thanks form a great article! This is a huge undertaking but will be so good for our community. Although I know it's the most expensive and challenging, the Calder Creek option would be incredible. Imagine the Commons connecting Main Street to the Arts Center and Ives Park along the restored creek. That would be truly wonderful and an amazing addition to downtown.

I'm not speaking on behalf of the Committee, but one of the interesting aspects of our work is appreciating how we can bring Commons concepts to solving some near term challenges AND still envision a longer term plan for the city that would involve redeveloping and integrating that riparian corridor.

I love the idea of the commons. A place for community, especially youth. Rite aid location seems so central, that would be amazing. Pairing out community senior and younger generations in one common area…dreamy!

Thank you for highlighting our civic project!
