RoundUp: Make your mark
Riding for immigrant justice, city committee openings, tattoos for mental health, and more
An 800-mile trek for immigrant justice
Two weeks ago, we wrote about the reopening of Revel Cycles in the Barlow. Afterward, we got a message from the store’s co-owner, Dominic Howes, who lives in Minnesota. (He comes out to Sebastopol, where he grew up, to help his brother Dan at the bike store now and then.)
Howes, a documentary filmmaker, thanked us for the story and mentioned that he was about to head out on an 800-mile bike trip from Minnesota to Wyoming to raise money for legal aid for immigrants.
His fourth day out, riding across South Dakota, he made a video about why he was doing this. “I am dedicating this ride to supporting immigrant justice in this country,” he said. “It’s something that’s under grave threat right now under the Trump administration, and probably a lot of you have seen some of the ICE raids taking place across the country. It’s been violent. They’re not honoring due process, they’re not showing warrants, they’re covering their faces—some of the worst stuff you can imagine. It’s unconstitutional, it’s racist and it’s wrong.”
For the next three weeks, Revel Cycles in the Barlow is selling special edition “No Human is Illegal” t-shirts and hoodies, with proceeds donated to Pangea Legal and California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice.
You can follow Dominic’s journey on Instagram and on Facebook. You can also see a moving short that Howes made about a recent ICE arrest in Sunnyvale, California, on his August 15 social media posts—and if so moved, you can donate to support the defense of the guy in the film.)
Join a city committee!
In our last city council recap, we wrote about the creation of a new oversight committee for Sebastopol’s Enterprise Funds (the water and sewer funds). You can help shape how Sebastopol grows and allocates these funds. There are five empty spots on this new committee. You must apply by Tuesday, Sept. 23, by 4 pm.
There are also two openings on the Planning Commission—one for city residents and one for someone in greater Sebastopol. The deadline to apply is Sept. 2.
See the city website for full details on these openings.

Progress on the Forestville Club mural
Remember three weeks ago, when we ran a photo of the lime-green Forestville Club? It’s now sporting a gorgeous new mural by Amandalynn. She’s currently finishing up a “Welcome to Forestville” mural on the adjacent wall around the corner.

immigrant justice? How absolutely naive and ignorant this guy is. I've seen results of this invasion of criminals, the killings, rapes and assorted crimes they commit. Get real pal, you're part of the problem!
